Fresh'n up!

I was checking out Four Tet's live album launch party a few weeks ago and was surprised and delighted when I caught DJ Barely Legal warming up for him. I'd never heard of her but she brought a smile to my face with some fresh and cutting edge electronic music forms delivered with ferocity. It's the kind of music ripe for pastiche but done here it's how I'm happy that the underground is progressing - razor sharp... BIG TIP

Wudu

Another selection of killer african discoplates from a heavy collector, they just keep on coming out of the woodwork don't they? Thorsten is noted for providing the AM Deballot 7" to Wudu Dance for the recent reissue...(!) This kind of stuff turns me on much more than the glut of reissues on the now mainstream labels like Soundway or Analog Africa, it kind of feels more raw, more tranced/tripped out, yeah? (Although check that Kenyan special on Soundway, our man Fredrik in Helsinki was in on that.)
